The 2024 summer racing season at Colonial Downs closes out in style on Saturday September 7th with the 21st running of the New Kent County Virginia Derby which carries a purse of $500,000 this year. The country’s top 3-year-old turf horses will compete along with the sport’s best jockeys and trainers.
A stellar under card includes the $250,000 Virginia Oaks, $150,000 Colonial Cup, $125,000 Kitten’s Joys Stakes, $150,000 Da Hoss Stakes and $125,000 Exacta Systems Rosie’s Stakes.
First post is 1:30 PM and admission is free. There will also be a free Secretariat poster giveaway. Colonial Downs features two stellar racing surfaces including the Secretariat Turf Course which at 180 feet across, is the widest grass racing surface in the country.
